Sweet Peas by GymStars!

Sweet Peas will host and include our present baby (6m – 12m), toddler (12m – 24m) and (24m – 36m) and pre-school (3 – 4 yrs) and New Hope (children with different abilities programs! 

It combines quality gymnastics programming that is delivered in an active learning setting with an overt focus on child development and delivers it in a clean and fresh brand!  We have built a progressive, innovative gymnastics brand that provides excellent developmental, social and educational experiences for children in their communities.

COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS 

We will introduce the ‚What I Can Do‘ handouts – they outline the physical, motor, social cognitive and developmental milestones for children. These handouts reinforce the ideology that children grow and develop in different and unique ways.

The second written communication tool that we share with parents is a two page introduction to our Sweet Peas program that describes its goals and philosophies. The third written communication tool that we have is a class description sheet that details your child’s specific class. Sweet Peas will have full page descriptions of each class level; Wee Pea through to Four Pea! 

PROGRAM INFORMATION 

WEE PEA (6 months – 12months)

Wee Peas are not developmentally ready to participate in structured rotations or circuits. Wee Peas want to explore, try new things, watch others and then try something else. In order to be developmentally responsive, we have implemented a free-flowing classroom for our Wee Peas. We provide a „Perpetual Activities List“ for Wee Peas that contains a variety of appropriate warm ups and activities. Coaches select several activities each week and set up the classroom accordingly. With a parent or guardian by their side, Wee Peas enjoy a group welcome and warm up and then are encouraged to choose their activities. Coaches provide assistance and expertise as they supervise the activities. 

ONE PEA (1 year old)

One Peas are introduced to a modified structured classroom as their activities are loosely organized around set circuits. One Peas are encouraged to participate in age appropriate skill progressions at set stations, however they are free to explore these activities independently reserving the order and time spent at each station to the child and parent/guardian. Similar to Wee Peas, One Peas also follows a Perpetua List of Activities. The One Pea activities are developmentally aimed at one year olds – who, among other things, are walking. One Pea coaches choose several facilities from the One Pea Perpetual List of activities and set the classroom up accordingly. After the Welcome and Warm Up Song, the One Pea explains each activity to the parent/guardian and outlines the developmental goals of activity. The One Pea class offers one year olds experience with listening to instructions (note we did not say "following“ instructions) and participating in specific motions and skills.

TWO PEA, THREE PEA AND FOUR PEA (2, 3 AND 4 year olds)

Two Pea, Three Pea and Four Pea graduate to specific lesson plans. The lesson plans incorporate the monthly social theme, educational focus, developmental focus and specific gymnastics activities, progressions and skills. The social and educational themes are the same for every level, however the goals are adapted to meet the developmental needs and abilities of each age group. Themes are chosen specifically for their adaptability to our various age groups.

SweetPeas by GymStars recognises every student! We believe that praise is a wonderful tool! Praise helps children recognize the benefit of doing their best, finishing what they start and accomplishing goals. A program that incorporates achievement milestones impacts accountability to coaches as they are tasked with preparing their students for the goal at hand. Praise also helps create a loving partnership with our students‘ parents and families. The Sweet Pea program takes every opportunity to cultivate supportive and collaborative relationships with the families that we serve!
